6th Annual Boston Bike Film Fest is now history

...and I'm already looking forward to the 7th.  Still at the Brattle, still the same time of year, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for making our message more powerful?  Please let me know!  We'd like to raise as much money as possible for cycling advocacy!

Boston Bike Film Festival - this weekend!

Cycling themed films, snacks by Redbones, silent auction - including yoga sessions with Jill Braverman, an aromatherapy facial by Gwen at Pour Le Corps, bike shop gift certificates, and much more - at your favorite funky theatre, the Brattle! What could be better? So Come Pedal your Film! October 22-23 in Harvard Square! See you there :)

Less than 2 weeks

And the corresponding lack of sleep by yours truly is sure to follow. I think there's some sort of formula that when x=the remaining number of days to the BBFF, and y=the hours of sleep, they both decrease (some might say exponentially). As usual, I worry about $$ - will I have enough to both pay the theatre and other expenses AND still have enough to give a sizeable amount to the non-profits we love? Stay tuned...

In the meantime, we have a really amazing group of films this year (I know, I say that every year), but I think there will be more time to socialize (which some folks complain that there isn't enough of) this year, and I really think a good time will be had by all.

So, again Come Pedal Your Film! October 22-23, 2010 at the Brattle!

One more week - to submit your film!

Yikes! Only one more week to submit your cycling-themed film to the 6th Annual Boston Bike Film Festival. Where the heck did the summer go? As usual, we're scrambling to figure out the finest film to show for the festival, but we've got so many amazing films, how does one choose? Oh, to just sit and have a glass of wine... The better to choose the finalists....

Looking for a cycling-related job?

Do you like to ride? Do you like to travel? Do you like to talk to people about both? Ciclismo Classico is looking for folks with a travel sales background to work in their Arlington, Massachusetts office. It's a fun place to work (trust me, I know!), so contact them for more deets. Plus, they sponsor the BBFF! www.ciclismoclassico.com

dogs on bikes?

If anyone has any ideas about a basket that will hold a 16 lb. Westie terrier, please let me know. I would love to take her for a bike ride! The ones I see online are not big enough. Any thoughts from cyberland out there? Let me know!

Nice fireworks

I rode to the river (near Kendall) and it was very easy getting there. Lovely fireworks (though a little shorter this year, I think! Budget cuts, maybe?). Getting home through the crowds however, was a little more hairy! I was pleased to see how many people had helmets and lights, but displeased to see how many didn't! No brain, no headaches, I guess. Oh, and drunk, too, so maybe they thought they'd bounce...

Interested in being IN a cycling film?

Head down to the Newton City Hall War Memorial in Newton Center this Saturday at 9 am. Or if you're from J.P., meet at Bikes Not Bombs on Amory at noon. You can be part of a music video that may be submitted later this fall to the BBFF. Nathan Aronow has a link to the rough cut of the music, but I can't get the link to work! You may be able to find it by going to www.aronowmusic.com Or just show up and you too can be a star :)

You can meet David Herlihy on June 24th

He's the author of The Lost Cyclist. He'll be at the Boston Public Library at 6 p.m. The book is about an ambitious rider whose planned ride around the world ended suddenly when he disappeared mysteriously in Turkey. This book has been exhaustively researched, and I can't wait to read it!

Bike Week? Bike Month!

Hoping everyone logged a lot of miles last week for Bike Week, but it's not over yet. There are still a whole bunch of events - a celebration of bikes at Flattop Johnny's on Wednesday and the annual Redbones extravaganza on Monday the 7th! I didn't get out there as much during the week, but Sunday was a fabulous riding day and there were so many people out on bikes! Now if you were out there and filming riders, maybe you could parlay that into a film suitable for the 6th annual BBFF... Waiting for that segue, weren't ya? Come Pedal Your Film!

Very exciting films await you...

...but you have to wait until October :(

Seriously though, I am very excited about the caliber of films we've received thus far. From animation within a film, to a film with no people, to a story about a trip around the world (and no, not ala B52s "Roam"). I think everyone is going to be very excited and surprised!

I'll send a few teasers on the web site soon!

Boston's First Bicycle Safety Summit 4/21/10

If you care about the safety of you and those around you, whether cycling, walking OR driving, please plan to attend the mayor's first ever Bicycle Safety Summit on Wednesday, 4/21/10 at 5:30 p.m. at Morse Auditorium at B.U. There are sure to be important ideas shared and you can effect change - in fact, it's the only way to effect change - in this city!

The first couple of films are in for the 6th annual BBFF. Hope the quality continues. Come Pedal Your Film! Submission deets are at www.bostonbikefilmfest.org. And support Bike Night May 15th (great way to start Bike Week) back in Boston this year. We do!

6th Annual Boston Bike Film Festival!

With Spring rearing its green lil head (despite the frigid temps), I'm happy to see so many people out and about on their bikes. Does make one feel healthy! Another healthy thing to think about is the upcoming BBFF Call For Entries (not the smoothest of segues, but....) 2010. If you know of anyone, or are yourself an aspiring filmmaker, please think about submitting a film to our 6th annual event this fall. It's fun, it's easy, and it's for a good cause: cycling advocacy groups in greater Boston, like Mass Bike and Bikes Not Bombs! Every little bit helps. Deets are on the web page, which has been updated (except for our logo - they're working on it!) with the new dates. So, what are you waiting for? Come Pedal Your Film!!

Money has been given!

We were finally able to close the books on the 2009 BBFF and donate to both Mass Bike and Bikes not Bombs. I want to thank each and every one of our contributors, and hope to see everyone next year. We've already started accepting submissions for 2010, so if you have filmmaking friends, please let them know. We're also planning on updating our website to a new format this year (courtesy of Kevan Christine, our photographer/graphic designer/webmistress/and all-around go-to gal!), so look for it in the coming months. New merchandise may be on the website for sale as well, and that should be available some time this summer. Hope y'all had a great holiday and keep all your New Year's resolutions - and hoping one of them is to attend the 2010 Boston Bike Film Festival!
